Birch tree at dawn with crescent-moon "0700 GMT and the first photo of the day, about an hour before sunrise. After a rainy New Year's Eve and a pre-dawn drive out to the New Forest in light drizzle, I'm relieved to find all rain has ceased as I begin the walk to my chosen location. A brief opening in the clouds provides a glimpse of the crescent-moon - in order to get the moon in frame with the silver birch tree in silhouette I had to use a 35mm lens near ground-level, so the moon is an unavoidably small but nonetheless important element in the picture."

(35-80mm zoom lens at 35mm, 1 sec at f8, Velvia at IS0 50).
