Subject Info

The Brimstone Butterfly is quite common and widespread throughout the British Isles (except the far north) and most of Europe, favouring lightly wooded habitats. In Britain, adults often overwinter in hibernation, and these are often the first butterflies to be seen the following spring. Larva feeds on Buckthorn.

Photographed with a hand-held Nikon FE2 camera with 105mm Micro-Nikkor lens, backlit by sunlight, taken at about 1/125th sec and f8, on Kodachrome 64 film processed normally. No filters used.
