Subject Info

The Natterjack Toad is a rare and protected amphibian in Britain and is associated with coastal dune ponds. It has been re-introduced in a number of areas where it is usually only active at night. In early spring evenings and into the night, the males can be heard croaking as they compete with each to attract a mate.

Photographed with a hand-held Nikon F801 camera and Nikkor 105mm Micro-Nikkor lens, lit with twin TTL flash on home-made bracket; taken (at 1/125th second) at f11 on Fujichrome Provia 100 film at ISO 100 and processed normally; no filters used.

Dorset, England, March.
