Subject Info

The Small Tortoiseshell Butterfly occurs throughout the British Isles and Europe, and is one of the most beautiful butterflies to be seen in Britain where it is one of the commonest and most widespread butterflies. In Britain, many adults survive for more than one year, spending the winter in hibernation, reappearing the following spring. Larva feeds on Stinging Nettle.
